San Francisco: Two Months
On July 10th, I had been living in San Francisco for two months. It’s been a whirlwind of activity and I’ve barely started catching up. I have never been happier about a life choice than moving here.
The Move
Boston and San Francisco are my two favorite cities in the world. I chose to move to San Francisco about two years ago during a visit to the city in January. It was 60° and sunny. Enough said. Moving from coast to coast would have been expensive beyond belief if not for my Aunt & Uncle who were gracious enough to let me mail and store 27 boxes of various sizes that contained nearly everything I own. I cannot thank them enough! I sent everything parcel post and the grand total was only a couple grand.
Living
I am still living in a sublet situation as I pick which neighborhood I want to live in. Before arriving in the city I thought I was going to live in Nob Hill or Russian Hill. I knew better after a couple weeks. Now, I might choose some place in Western Addition, Haight, or Hayes Valley. Proximity to the BART is crucial because…
Work
is a startup outside the city. We’re doing the lean-and-mean thing: office room in the co-founder’s house three days a week and two days of work from home. The startup lifestyle is appealing in a lot of ways. I love my job and their product offering. Expect to hear more about this in the future.
Quirks
The bar I found that serves Shiner Bock also has a drag revue every third Saturday. Mark your calendars Texas beer/transgendered entertainment fans, I guess. There are naked dudes literally hanging out at the corner of Castro & Market. When I walked outside today my head was in the clouds and I could barely see my feet. Just a few blocks away my local café was clear and dry.
San Francisco is wonderfully funny. I end up blurting out in laughter at things I see, or sometimes in inappropriate situations. Here is a quick list of funny stuff:
- K-POO FM
- A Clockwork Orange themed pub called Milk Bar
- A laundromat in the Castro: Sit and Spin
- A hair salon: Blade Runners
- A restaurant in the Castro: The Sausage Factory
- The Get the Funk Out laundromat
